Description
The Magazzini del Cotone are the long complex of buildings on the Molo Vecchio, in Genoa's Porto Antico: built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries for the port's goods, they now house a multiplex movie theater, the convention center, shops and the Città dei Bambini e dei Ragazzi.
The Città dei Bambini, on the second floor, is a space for play and science for children and kids aged 2 to 14: experiments and games to touch and try out, guided by facilitators and divided by age group. Adults get in only when accompanying a child.
The same building is also home to the De Amicis library, devoted to young people up to 18.
The north building is more than three hundred meters long. The south one, from 1926, was built for cotton, hence the name. Damaged in the war, the Magazzini were restored for Expo 1992, on the five-hundredth anniversary of the discovery of America.
