Description

The Raccolte Frugone is a small museum of Italian and foreign art from the 19th and early 20th centuries, in the Parks of Nervi, in Genoa: paintings, sculptures and drawings by many of the great names of the period, in a villa surrounded by the greenery of the parks.

The works come from the collections of the brothers Luigi and Lazzaro Giovanni Battista Frugone, donated to the city in 1935 and 1953. There are Giovanni Fattori, Silvestro Lega and Telemaco Signorini, Giovanni Boldini, Giuseppe De Nittis, Giovanni Segantini and Antonio Mancini.

Foreign artists are here too, such as the Spaniard Joaquín Sorolla and the American Richard Miller, and so is sculpture, with Leonardo Bistolfi and Paolo Troubetzkoy.

The museum is housed in Villa Grimaldi Fassio, which the Fassio shipowners had remodelled in the 1950s by the architect Luigi Carlo Daneri, with a new hall opening onto the park. The city bought it in 1979 and moved the collections here in 1993. The rose garden, in the eastern part of the park, has grown to around 800 varieties of roses.
