Description
On this cetacean watching tour from Genoa, the sanctuary is explained from the start. A marine biologist opens with a short briefing on the Pelagos Sanctuary: its history, its conservation programs and the species that live there.
Then the boat sets out to open water, to the spots most likely to offer sightings. The wait is part of it: you scan the horizon for a distant breach, or a leap that signals a pod of dolphins. When animals appear, the boat approaches following the rules against disturbing them.
- Fin whales and sperm whales
- Cuvier's beaked whales and Risso's dolphins
- Long-finned pilot whales
- Striped, bottlenose and short-beaked common dolphins
Sightings are common but cannot be guaranteed. If none happen, you can book again through the company's website within one year and hand over your original ticket at the boarding gate.
The guides welcome questions about feeding, behaviour and protection work. A bar on board sells snacks and drinks, which are not included, and the trip can be cancelled the day before in bad weather. The tour runs in English and Italian.
